„Migration of the Romani: dilemmas and perspectives of the European Union”

The conference “Migration of the Romani: dilemmas and perspectives of the European Union” organised by Oradea Eparchial Caritas Association together with the Greek-Catholic Bishopric of Oradea, under the patronage of the Conference of the Catholic Bishops in Romania, supported by Renovabis, began on Wednesday, 18 February 2015, with a Latin Rite Mass celebrated in Saint Nicholas Church, in the courtyard of the Seminary, and went on at the Continental Hotel.
The speakers who opened the conference were Father Olimpiu Todorean, the President of Oradea Eparchial Caritas Association, as organiser, His Excellency Virgil Bercea, the Greek-Catholic Bishop of Oradea, as a host of the event, His Excellency Petru Gherghel, the Roman-Catholic Bishop of Iaşi, responsible with migration in the Romanian Episcopal Conference, under whose patronage the conference is held and Monica Klek, Renovabis referent for Romania.
The conference is meant to be interactive and was planned as a sharing experience that involves both reflection and learning. The event gave the participants the opportunity to share project experiences, good practices, but also to ask questions and find answers for them.
By using the principles of work-coffee and open space methods, the participants establish the specific themes of the debates and, at the end, formulate the conclusions.
The conference is mainly addressed to specialists and people working in this field in migrants’ countries of origin and in the countries of their destination.
At this conference there are 61 representatives of national governmental institutions, European institutions with responsibilities in this area, of the civil society and of various representative organisations of the Romani from 8 countries Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Hungary and Romania. They collaborated in order to find better and more efficient ways to approach this momentous and challenging issue.
