Three days in the city of contrasts

Three days in the city of contrasts

I had the chance to spend, together with priest Ioan Mitrofan from Blaj and a group of 36 persons, all Greco-catholic priestesses who work, collaborate or simply act as volunteers in Caritas associations from Oradea, Cluj, Maramures, Blaj, Bucharest Dioceses, three days in the country of European institutions, i.e. Belgium, between 3-7 March, current year at the invitation of euro parliamentarian Monica Macovei.
The trip was supported entirely by the euro parliamentarian Monica Macovei. Thanks to the this invitation we had the chance to visit The European Parliament and Brussels city Hall, to check important objectives from the capital city of Belgium, to discuss with the ex-minister of Justice and his advisors.
In the first day of our visit we made the city tour by bus, we visited the imposing building of the City Hall, we had made a feast of sweet and flavoured gauffre. The day ended at Leven, a Mass served by the assumptionist priest Cornelis Nelissen. It was an uplifting Mass and a very warm welcome made by priest Nelissen.
The second day was marked by the visit to European Parliament and Parlamentarium Museum but also by the meeting with euro parliamentarian Monica Macovei who helped us better understand the role and the functioning system of European Parliament as well as her mission as one of its members.
In the third day of our staying in the capital of Europe we were simply „lost” on streets and inside stores. In the heart of Brussels we found streets full of charm, a special charm in the Eurocrat bustle of the streets of the capital of Belgium, and parks, restaurants, famous pubs, thousands of beers types from classic blonde and brown to fruity unfiltered beer or strange flavoured ones, cafes, antique shops, vintage or fashion stores and boutiques full of sweet and gourmet Belgium products.
There were three day of memories that will always remain etched in our minds and in our souls.
We thank Mrs Monica Macovei and Caritas Eparchial Oradea Association for giving us the chance to stay for couple of days in the city of modern art, a multicultural city, a city where you may find one of the largest linguistic and cultural mosaics in the entire world- Brussels.
